Why Read Aloud? From the Editors of Fabled Films Press

The white paper below provides ideas and knowledge that support the benefits of reading aloud to middle grade children based on studies and research into what has been a successful practice at home and in schools as well as our nationally implemented Nocturnals Read Aloud Program.

Recommended Resources for Middle Grade Read Aloud

The articles and books recommended below offer additional reading and support about the benefits of reading aloud to middle grade children.

For middle grade read aloud audio examples that can be used in a classroom, library or at home, visit The Nocturnals World Read Aloud Blog: https://nocturnalsworldreadaloud.tumblr.com/

The Nocturnals Read Aloud Program with Middle Grade Book Club Questions

Conduct an engaging classroom read aloud and discussion to help your students think critically about plot, character and theme.

1. Start by asking for three volunteers to read the prologue of The Nocturnals aloud in each of the character voices--Dawn, Tobin and Bismark. The book club leader will read the narrative.

2. Play the audio or animated short found on our website and discuss how the characters' voices are different than the voices of the volunteers.

3. Ask a different group of volunteers to read the first chapter aloud--encourage the children to dramatize the material.

4. Use the discussion questions below to discuss the plot and characters in further detail.

To send feedback, ask questions or for more information on our read aloud program or to submit an audio recording to be featured on our blog:
